Camouflage House
Alterations and additions
PROJECT VITALS
Location: Adamstown Heights, NSW
Type: Major Alterations & Additions
Role: Project Lead (project undertaken while at Craggspace Architecture)
Status: Completed
THE CONTEXT
A two-storey home with a fractured layout and a central entry that restricted the floor plan. While the interior was compartmentalised, the building retained its original face brick and mid-century character. The project required a design that improved circulation and light while honouring the existing building fabric.
THE DESIGN
The entry was relocated to the side of the house to create a new arrival sequence and unlock the upper floor plan. This new volume features a raked timber ceiling and a stairwell that provides a visual connection from the street through to the living areas. Internal walls were removed to create an open-plan kitchen and dining area that flows to the rear deck and pool. The original brickwork was preserved and paired with warm timber cladding and batten screening to maintain a grounded aesthetic.
KEY FEATURES
Relocated Entry: A side addition creating a light-filled stairwell and internal garage connection.
Materiality: Preservation of original face brick complemented by timber soffits and screening.
Light and Privacy: High-level windows designed to capture sky views while maintaining privacy from neighbours.
